I'm thinking today's the day (Orange County). Will put in 20-40 today and start hoping. Anyone produced a drop in the LHV yet?

I guess without optimism, a Maple Man is nothin'!

Maybe late this week or next weekend. Not supposed to be above freezing this week in Dutchess.

At 2 pm yesterday had a decent flow going on the south side of about 1/2 the 30 taps I put in. Looking good for next weekend...!

Will try next weekend. Only got to 32.5 here Sunday, but the sun felt great. Still getting things together in the shack.

Hey Ghs, where are you in Ulster county? I'm in Woodstock. The temp Sunday was about 33 here. It did feel a lot warmer though than what we've been getting.

Tapped tree next to house today to monitor the flow. This one sits in full sun most of the day and is my best producer. Temp hit 35. Bone dry.

Usually tap the 1st week in Feb but held back this year. Heading into the woods this weekend.

Another 25 in on Sunday. Snowshoes on my feet and snow falling on my head; still, looking pretty good this coming week. We might be swimming in sap by mid-week next week.

Absolutely nothing here yet. Will tap everything this weekend, and finish up work on evap. Should be ready for next week. At least 2' of snow in woods after latest storm.

Taps goin' in tomorrow :)

Got 25 of 30 in today. Did not expect it to be so ****ed hard to get through 2 feet of powder. Only did the trees close to the driveway. Gotta get me a snow machine for next year.
I was surprised to get some seepage from a few of the trees.

Not a drip yesterday.
But I could sell snow fleas by the pound....

Finally some flow in Southern Ulster!
Some taps gave me a pint, some taps a gallon and a half.
All told, about 25 gallons from forty taps.

I got about a quart on my monitor tree. Spent the afternoon marking new laterals. Difficult terrain, and the snow did not help. Not sure the best way to tap this lot. I wanted to use 3/16, but I'm not happy with the drop. Marginal at best. The maples were not where I hoped they would be. Some really nice trees though, some 2 and 3 tap diameters. I must have walked a few miles, but in this snow, it's just plain exhausting. Evap is coming together. I had some parts fabricated, and they are ready. Just in time. Need more storage capacity!

25 taps and about 10 gallons in 4 days. Not what I was expecting. Hopefully have enough for a test boil tomorrow.

Crazy big runs the last week or so in eastern Orange County. Took in an average of just under 2 gallons per gravity tap (!!!) on Saturday and expect a pretty big run today/tomorrow. Might exceed 10 gallons of sap pertap or about a quart of finished syrup per tap when all the steam clears. Definitely wishing I had the dough for a bigger boiler right about now!
