Pulling the taps

Hi Just a quick question . After the season is over do you leave the old tap hole open or do you plug it with a wood plug? I read somewhere that you should leave it open

Don't plug it. It impedes the trees ability to heal itself.

DONT PLUG with anything,if you use 5/16 taps,next year it will be hard to find it,it's like you having a splinter,as soon as you remove it it starts to heal not till it's removed.

Last year my 5/16" tap holes were completely closed off (healed) within 6 weeks of pulling the taps out. It was interesting to watch the progress weekly. The sides closed in towards the center and looked they looked like a baby's belly button.
