Hoping against hope, but....
Today's ten day forecast for lower NY finally shows two consecutive days of 30 degrees! :D
Feb 21st and 22nd. It is my completely uneducated opinion that this indicates the end of the freeze for my area, and the warm up will begin shortly thereafter.
Unfortunately, not before.

But everywhere north is still in the 20s......

The ground shouldn't have too much frost with the snow cover tho, right? I think when the weather breaks, the faucets will open!

Looks more like 25th/26th to me.

That's if I can make it through the 2 feet plus of snow to even get my taps in, let alone finish building my block evaporator.

I just checked our 10 day, and the highest temp I find is 24. I think the frost settled in a while ago before we got a nice protective layer of snow. Talked to an excavator contractor about 2 weeks ago, and he said it's upwards of 24" deep. I'll take the time to fine tune a few things in the sap house, and add a few more lines to the sugar bush. Almost looks like a repeat of last season. Lets just hope when it finally breaks, it gives us a good stretch before summer hits all at once!! Good luck to everyone!!

Check out this site.

gives you several weeks in the future. It does change as the jet stream moves and trends change.

We have 3-4' of frost in different locations. In the last two weeks on the snow trails most of the springs and normally open brooks are frozen. Even one spring that dint freeze last season is frozen now.

Definitely have all your ducks in a row and get those trees tapped for the first possible flows, does look to me as a repeat of last season.

Just remember that the long range forecast on Accuweather changes several times a day. Two years ago it gave a forecast of favorable weather for tapping in 5 days and for 3 weeks straight it was always 5 days out.

I know it's never quite accurate, but what else do we have??

But I see a glimmer of light for me. March 1st. Finally!

I have noticed that and also that usually on the 25 day the last few days are almost exactly the same. Since mid January mine has never been accurate for more than 6 days in advance and that was only once.

The Accu weather in my area say's no sap days till April 1st. All I need is to get 10,000 gallons of sap everyday for the first 20 days of April. Last year I only had 3 runs in March. I think we are right on track for a great season.

The anticipation is killing me, but I'm not ready anyway. Home made evap getting close, so is shack. Too **** cold to even work outside, but I have to. Not sure truck will make it into woods with all the snow. I'm probably two week out to be ready.
