Promise of Cold Weather- Ontario

Too early -
But always fun to listen to the weather guru's about the spring; and how cold it will be until April.
Seems like that groundhog may have his way and gives us 6 extra weeks of winter.

No danger of us needing to tap yet! We might be able to punch some holes 2 weekends from now. I was hoping to get a head start on tapping this coming long weekend but it looks like all we'll be able to do is wash some evaporator parts and maybe get the releasers out into the bush.

How true no tapping yet in Ontario, severe freezing, -22C this morning, cold all week they say. Around this time of year I come to this site to get me thinking sap, maybe learn something new to try for the season, and that soon it will be our turn.

I always get a giggle out of the pics that show tapping and collecting with no snow on the ground, I will never get my head around that.

Good luck to all of us, snow or no snow may we all have a banner year.

It was a balmy -11 last night but looks like we'll see temps in the mid -20's at night for the next week or so. 3-4 weeks off still for us.

I am all ready to go. New 3/16 gravity vacuum tubing installed and the sugar shack ready. Just dreaming of some warmer weather now.

Oh ya baby, -32C (-25 F ), this morning at home.
I don't mind a cold morning in February but -30,s is a bit much !!

Guess it gives me more planning time for this season.

I need to vent once again, another stupid cold ( really cold ) couple days headed my way again.
Climate change is helping the gas company, not the Maple syrup people !!

Yup -25 tonight with a wind chill of over -30 in my area. Seeing this will be my first real season with my new set up I'm super pumped to get under way but at the same time I've been really busy last few months and still have a fews things left to finish.

I hear you on that one Mark....it's my first real year as well. last year was the freebie that got me hooked and now I'm getting pretty anxious!

Will it ever end? Another extreme cold warning for tonight! Is there any hope? Just venting.

2010 we were boiling on March 6th.
I cannot imagine we will even have the taps in the trees by then this year.
Good news is the experts were calling for a low leaf drop last year so the sap will be sweeter this year.
But its going to be tough to store sap in June when we are finally able to start boiling.
