I work at a nature center about 50 miles SW of Chicago. Our Maple Syrup program begins next week. So I tapped a few trees today and the sap ran right away. We have about a hundred school children every day for a Maple syrup demo normally we don't get any sap this early so just boil water and sugar in the evaporator to give the effect until sap begins to run which is usually the last part of Feb. Maybe it wil lbe a good syrup year for all of us here in the Midwest
