I am in the process of lining my homemade arch and would like some input. should I use brick with arch board. If so do you put the arch board in first then line the inside with brick or vise versa. any input would be appreciated.

Not sure if you need both, but if you do use both. The brick would probably stand up better to regular wear and tear.

arch board first then brick

Ditto what Spiledriver said. Definitely insulate the arch - unless you are boiling outside. If you are boiling for the better part of the day, you won't be able to stand next to your evaporator if it's not insulated.

I would prefer to have an insulation blanket instead of arch boards because of arch boards could break and fall apart while the blanket stays together. Then put firebricks over it.

Does anyone know how tough arch board is to cut? Never felt it in person so i am not sure of its density.

very easy to cut - i just used a utility knife cut - have some spare blades, as the fibers dull the blades pretty quick.

Make sure to wear some type of mask/ respirator when cutting. Not fun breathing in little fibers that pop up when cutting the arch board.

Get the high purity grade ceramic fiber board:

http://ceramsource.com/our-procuts/insulation-products/ceramic-fiber-board/

not the mineral would board:

http://ceramsource.com/our-procuts/insulation-products/mineral-wool-board/

It has a higher insulating value and doesn't fall apart.
