1) Golden (delicate taste)
2) Amber (rich taste)
3) Dark (robust taste)
4) Very Dark (strong taste)
Traditionally we have been conditioned to produce and sell a secondary characteristic (color) and this links that to the primary characteristic (taste). Very well done and my thanks to all who worked so hard over the years to make this happen.

Any word on when the USDA permanent sets will become available? I already have a permanent set, so can I buy just the new slides?

From the above link
" Question 10:*Will revised USDA color standards (maple sirup color grading kits) be available?
Response:*The revised standards specify that "color may be determined by spectrophotometer, or any method that provides equivalent results." The current USDA Color Standards for Maple Sirup permanent kit will no longer meet the revised requirements for color. There are no plans to revise the USDA maple sirup grading kit. Other entities are free to develop grading kits in the marketplace."
So, are the colors the same as before with new names for marketing? Or have the colors been changed too? Or does anybody actually know?

Fancy or "Light Amber" is the same as Golden Delicate, though they screwed up the kit sold in VT last year. All other grades have changed in color.

here's the comparison.....this is from 2 years ago, so the current grades are actually the old grades now just to not cause confusion
flat if you were talking about the lovibond kit, then the new kits/blanks are available

It amazes me how many feel they can use the old grade kit and just change what the names are, in fact it can't be done other than golden and light amber
