View Full Version : New Arch Build, Need advice on proper firebricking.

I got my 4'x8' arch all done except for the firebrick. 1) Should I lay the firebrick in a bed of mortar. 2) Place the firebrick butted up against each other and mortar over the top? 3) Place firebrick like you would build a brick wall. mortar joints between each brick?

Looks good but I would turn your grates upside down to avoid warping. The ash caught in the Vee will help insulate it.

You can save yourself a bunch of weight by using ceramic insulation for the back and sides where the wood will never hit it.

Bricks by themselves offer zero insulation. You should use ceramic insulation or arch board, then only brick where you throw firewood to protect the insulation.

if that's angle iron it's gonna warp badly in the heat
