Hey all! Looking for where to find standard incandescent light bulb protective covers that are required for vermont sugarhouse certification... VMSMA has great examples of what can and can not be used but i can not locate where to find these covers??? Regular cages no good , need to be fully in closed...

I don't know if they would work or not but in my horse barn I used outside lights like by the entrance to your house. I wanted that old look lantern look and something that would contain a broken bulb. Just a thought but her is link to one similar to what they show you. I am sure there is more out there.

I went the coated bulb route in the main sugarhouse part, just to prevent having to make changes right now. When I added the ro room I used a vaportight fixture and plan to change the whole sugarhouse to them someday, but atleast for now im safe and legal.

We used a bulb enclosure sold by Home Depot for our sugarhouse. If you check online, search SKU 978071, and it should come up. It allows you to use a 150 watt bulb. We suspended the lights down from the ceiling by mounting a weather-tight box on the ceiling and then hanging the light fixture on metal conduit.

What if you used LED bulbs?

Over the years we have had to replace a globe or two. It is nice to know that replacement parts will be available and not have to replace the entire unit.

Yes, what about LED's? Good question. I don't know how they stand on using those.

if bulb can break and particles fall into pan/sap/syrup you need covers
I have some led's that the lights are molded into plastic. There is no glass and if they did break, I think it would be one big piece. I'll try to post a picture later if I remember.

Here's the fixture I use: http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/prod1;ft_lights_fixtures-ft_wet_location_lights;pg105447.html
They light the sugarhouse, then in the hood I have this http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/prod1;ft_lights_fixtures-ft_wet_location_lights;pg106806.html You can't use LED to my knowledge under the hood, but the incandescent works well. Read to be sure this meets Vermont regs.

I don't see it now, but when I bought mine for in the hood, it came as a whole unit. All I see now are components.

Here is a link to Lowes. I have used them on other projects even outside on my shop and they hold up well.. when I build my sugar shack this is what I am planning on using.
