Who here has been affected? We are just on the southern fringe of it and only got 8" or so. My dad, about 15 miles to our NW, got around 32"+ inches.

I know Jim Sudz here was in the heart of the storm. Anyone else?

Round 2 starts tonight.

We might be in the only spot in upstate NY that has no snow on the ground. That's fine. This is way too early for such a snow storm. The forecast says 2-3 feet more for the hardest hit areas.

No snow here in the Champlain valley. I think the mountains block most precipitation from reaching us.

Just a slight coating here in the Southern central Adirondacks

well I got close to epicenter today. started off going to plow mothers drive but all roads leading there were closed up with cars or not plowed yet. next stop was to get to the mill which is alden but again all north south roads were still closed. 2 town plow trucks were in the ditch. so back home i went only about 2-2.5' here in bennington. called friend of mine in alden who just happened to be in front of my shop at the time of call and he said stay home my plow wouldn't touch the 7' bank that was 12' deep. hopefully my brother will bring the front loader over in the morning. more snow coming 2'-3'.

I'm in Hamburg, NY between 15 and 20 miles south of Buffalo. We have about 4ft on the ground and and they are forcasting 1-2ft over night. Been an interesting 48 hrs. Just hope this isnt an indicator of the upcoming winter. Unfortunately there have been 6 deaths associated with the storm, most due to cardiac issues during snow removal. I teach 7th grade science and school has been closed the last 2 days and again tomorrow. I dont remember ever seeing this much snow in this short a time frame.

This reminds me of a customer's furnace I went to service in Redfield, NY back in the '90's. When we got there he had a path cleared big enough that we could back our 1 ton work van all the way to the outdoor furnace. The banks were vertical sided and were maybe 3' higher than our van. I asked the customer how he cleared it and he showed me a tractor with a rear PTO powered snow blower. He indicated that after the banks go to a certain height, he could only blow snow when there was a strong wind. He would back into the snow and blow it straight up, the wind would blow enough of it away that he could eventually get cleared to the ground. It sure seemed weird, backing into a long curving vertical walled canyon about 200' to our destination. One of us had to direct while the other backed because all white walls gave little perspective. When we left after servicing the unit, one had to walk into the road to be sure no traffic was coming so we could pull back onto the road.

I and most other people hate to see the pain caused to so many people during these natural disasters. I know most sugar makers are a hardy bunch and can take care of themselves as well as their neighbors. Good Luck, Be Careful and know our thoughts are with you.

I wouldn't wish that much snow on my worst enemy, about the worst I have ever dealt with was 4 ft in 24 hours and that was light & fluffy, think of all the oil folks will save with all that snow to insulate the house. Be careful out there

That is plenty to. I can only remember the Valentine's Day storm of 2007 I think it was that dumped 3' of snow in about 12 hours

My sister lives in Hamburg, a southern suburb, and sent me this pic of the snow band from a plane at night. Pretty eerie

Buffalo always gets a bad rap because we get a little snow. Snow will melt. We don't have forest fires, mud slides, tornadoes, hurricanes or a flooding. There have been 8 deaths do to the storm, which is the only catastrophe. We will get through this, wouldn't live any where else. Here's a few pics

Send some our way. We're on the wrong side of the lake - less than 2" and supposed to warm up :(

Big Eddy, we got plenty to send. Easily over 5ft now and a complete white out once again (12pm here). School already closed for the 4th straight day tomorrow. Getting a little stir crazy, but jimsudz is right could be alot worse.

I've heard that nine or so months after a big snowstorm there is usually a baby boom!

At last look it has stopped snowing (745 pm thurs) my measure is 6.5 ft total in a little under 72 hours. The band has dropped south of my location and is weakening. While my wife and i are awe struck are 4 year old son and 5 year old daughter are unimpressed. They just liked having mom and dad to themselves for 3 days
