We are building a new home and 36' x 48' "toy shed". I'd like to carve out space in the toy shed for evaporator room and commercial grade syrup/honey kitchen. The shed will also house my woodworking shop and toys. Will I have problems with food inspectors with the arrangement??? Put another way, do I need a separate building for the maple/honey operation?

Yes or some way to block off your woodworking shop and toys from your food grade area.

Dust from the woodworking shop can be a real problem. You might consider a solid barrier, and not even having a passage between the two, requiring one to go outside and come back in through a separate entrance. I have an office and studio above my shop, with a door and stairway between, and it's difficult to keep clean. You might consider splitting the space into three because your toys will be covered with dust too.

I'm a truss salesman. You might also look at your construction.
Once you start selling product you move from a residential to a
commercial building. The loadings and classification is different.
Just a thought. I've seen buildings get built, inspected
and red flagged. Lots of money to fix.
Good Luck.
I would contact your health department and pic their brains first on what will be acceptable. That's just common sense.

Just got in the same boat as you Sunny Knoll Farm. We're moving from town to an acreage with a two stall garage. My pickup doesn't fit into the two stall very well, and with the kids' toys it will be crammed. So, I'm thinking of building a two stall garage with a separate smaller attached building for the maple syrup production area. My state requires washable walls and ceilings, with no exposed wood what so ever.
Good luck to you,
