It's all about the kids

My wife and I were fortunate enough to make arrangements to take over the "old family farm" when Grandma died. The whole place (house, barn, sugar house) was in pretty serious disrepair, but all of the roofs were sound, so nothing catastrophic. While the sugar house itself was in good shape, almost all boiling equipment was shot. I am working hard to get things up and running on a smaller scale so that my kids can be the 7th generation on their mom's side to tap trees on this land.

Thats great. My kids are the 4th (maybe 5th) generation of our family to help out making syrup at our family's place. The farmhouse my grandmother lives in on the property was built just after the Civil War, so I know what your in for trying to keep an old place liveable. Good luck and have fun sugaring.
