Looks Great, what are the dimensions of your sugarhouse?

Windy Acres

the shack itself is 12x20, the lean to on the front adds another 8 feet

I assume you're just pouring concrete where the evaporator goes. Is that purely for cost or is there another reason for only pouring the one section. I've just started building a 14x16 very similar to yours and was going to just pour the whole floor 4" thick over my compacted gravel. Now I'm wondering if I need to.

flhr10
01-12-2015, 10:50 AM
I poured my whole floor and outside porch area at the same time. Took about 11 1/2 yds to pour 16x24 inside and 8x52 porch area. Glad I did it. Easy to clean and nice porch sitting area in the summer.

Windy Acres

head tank all plumbed in and pump all wired up

Windy Acres
01-12-2015, 02:02 PM
yes it was purely for cost, I am pouring a reinforced pad under the evaporator, I was going to pour the rest later, but the stone is packing in so well, I may not concrete the rest. if you can afford to do it, go for it, it will be a lot nicer

unc23win
01-12-2015, 03:37 PM
The whole thing looks very nice. Are you going to pour the section under the evaporator yourself? Around here you have to get minimum of 4 or 5 yards.

Windy Acres
01-12-2015, 03:51 PM
Thanks! Yes we are bag mixing it it shouldn't be too bad, 20-30 bags

WOW, the decision to go with a concrete floor has required a lot of work, since you were already completely set up. One thing for sure, you won't regret the work! You will have a nice setup when you get done with the concrete and have everything setup again. Looks like you have a lot of shale type rocks in your area...doesn't make it any fun digging in your trenches. Keep the pictures coming as you progress.

Nice tank if the condition is good. I have a 415 and a 545 Sunset, then a Mueller ~ 375 gal (not marked). All 3 of those tanks are real good, then I have some others a little the worse for wear but the inner tanks are good. I set my tanks using an 8000# excavator slung using 2 endless straps, my tractor would not lift them onto a raised platform.

Windy Acres
11-16-2019, 05:49 AM
that little sunset is just for the couple hundred on 3/16 that we pull back to the sugar house, the 2400 gallon H20 tank under the roof is brand new this year, now we can gather and not worry about storage, and no more recirculating as we added another pressure vessel to the RO, yup that is a 400 sunset and we also have a 545 sunset in the woods, and a 500 mueller sitting right next to it lol

Windy Acres,
For some reason I just had to go back and read your thread from the beginning! I dont post and follow as much as I used to. Remembered your handle and just had to see how you had grown! You should publish this as a guide to starting into the maple business! Some folks may never grow as you have but a lot of them do. There is a market for good maple syrup and its a great project! I chuckled at your additions but I can see the work that you have put into each one as you have grown your business! I see continued quality in your sugarhouse and your equipment. You have done good! Thanks to all the good pictures along the way too!

Chris
