Haven't even started. I'm sure there are some people ahead and behind you. What's next on the list after the firewood?

I'm retired so I have time. I've got the wood cut and stacked under cover in the woods but not split for the 2016 season. I have always tried to be ahead of the game incase of emergencies. Once you get ahead it's easy to stay there.

I have all my 2015 cut, split and stacked plus most of my 2016. For the 2016 season all is cut into 10' pcs. but only about 3/4 is bucked, split and stacked. I try to keep over 1.5 seasons ahead and before the new season arrives I have 2 seasons ready. I really like my fast splitter.

Just out of curiosity how long do you guys like to let your wood dry before considering it ready to burn?

Did my this summer and woodshed full that ontop of fourteen cord of firewood for myself and son, this winter have loggers doing logging next to our property and they are going to skid down 24 cord of firewood and I will get out another three to four cord of sugar wood and a buddy has five cords of sugar wood to come up to sugar house, also retired and have time to cut wood.

Depends on wood for me. Ash and cherry drys out quickly, usually good in 8 months if it is covered. Same with soft wood( pine/hemlock) I burn the same year if split small enough. On the other hand, Red oak takes 2-3 years to dry out

Do you guys all use hemlock? My father has 30+ acres of land that is mostly hardwood but has about 5 acres of hardwood choking hemlock on it. He keeps telling me to take it and run it through the processor for syrup but i didnt think it was worth cutting. I have a processor that does a full chord an hour so it whouldn t take too long to run it through. I usually burn 5 chord of hardwood a year in the house and cut the tops up for sugar wood.

Here is a link of Firewood BTU's for each species. It shows you that Hemlock is almost as good as soft maple. If it burns, it is worth burning in the arch. I mix with hardwood though. A fire of straight Pine, spruce or Hemlock fire goes fast.

I'm totally done I even have all then pallets cut up. Id be concerned if I had nothing stacked up and no way to get dry wood. There's no way to dry anything even ash or pine before march. Wood doesn't dry very much during winter when the waters frozen inside the log is my experience. I'm in agreement with the gentleman that are two years ahead.

I would burn the hemlock and any other type of northeastern tree you can get your hands on as long as it is dry. I'd like to have 2 years of wood put up, but I'm not even close to retired so I only have this upcoming winters worth for my house and evaporator. Mine has been done and stacked in the shed since early July. It seems to be good enough to burn after 3 months of warm weather If it's stacked in the shed. If I didn't have enough wood at this point in the year I'd look for some ash and hope for a warm November.

Well i have Wed off maybe ill knock some of these hemlocks down and stack them in the header for next year (this would make my dad happy). Ive got enough sugar wood for this year and probably next year now that i have the RO. I am a little behind on the fall chores around the house and still have a new short main line to run in the bush and a new sap ladder.
