So I have a lead on an older Grimm Filter Canner with stand. Its a 12"x20" with the faucet and thermometer. He is asking $450..Thoughts?

Just make sure to check to see if it is soldered or welded, if it is soldered, then there could be issues… In my opinion, for a 12x20 finisher, you can't go wrong with a WF Mason, and for only $50 more you can get a brand new canner/finisher. http://www.wfmasonwelding.com/finishersbottlers.html

Price seems high to me, especially if it is "older". Really depends upon how old and what condition it is in, and if it has a rack for filters. I would throw a lowball offer at him and see what happens.

I have a WF Mason 12x20 finisher/bottler (filter/canner) unit. Beautiful craftsmanship and less money than others I have seen on the market. The Mason unit also has lever on the back that tilts the pan so you can easily drain all the syrup "hands free".

Sounds like a lot for an old canner. Make sure it is lead free solder, the Grimm canner I have has the "lead free for maple use" plate right on it.

If I were to guess it is lead, I would guess it is 30 years old or better. Having said that, my 1993 King pans have lead solder. I believe it was 1998 when it was banned?

I have 2 grimm 12x20 canners; one with a rack for filtering and one to reheat drums of syrup in. I think they work great and I filter all my syrup through them and make an average of 110 gallons per year. As mentioned above, it seems pricey unless it includes the rack, cover, stand and burner.

It includes the pan, rack, cover, thermometer and stand/burner so complete.
