I'm building a 12x16 sugarhouse here: http://mapletrader.com/community/showthread.php?23827-Here-it-goes...12x16-sugarhouse-from-the-ground-up
I'm about to put up the roof and cupola, and I'm shopping for a roof jack to use. I'll be exiting my 8" stack from my Mason 2x4 directly up through the peak/ridge beam just behind the cupola. The pitch is 8/12.
The prices for roof jacks are insane - Bascoms wants $468 for a stainless. I'd like to do stainless, but I can't justify almost $500 on that one item. Is there a better way to do this? Is "roof flashing" the same as a roof jack? Sometimes things have price inflation when they get associated with being specifically for the maple industry (like thermometers)
Basically I'm trying to figure out a way to exit my stack without spending half a grand! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on getting a less expensive roof jack?

Amish is the way to save money I had mine made um I can't remember off hand I wanna say $85 each for 15" and 16". They are stainless and come with collar the only downside is that they don't have the ridges to match the steel. I used geo seal calk and screws, I put in wood pieces under each end to have more bite. Anyway A&A Metal in Ulysses, PA it will take them a week or two from the time you order them to make them they make them quick, but they are slammed with orders most of the time. Some where on here you might find there information.

I had THREE of them made up (in stainless) at my local sheet metal shop for less than that. they're heavy guage and will outlast my grandchildren.
I have 7" stack for my 2x6. It is just off the top of the peak but doesn't go thru the peak. I went to my local hardware store and bought a galvanized one. I added gasket material around it to form to my ridges in my metal roof. Worked perfect and only cost me $30 or so.

Theres a place in Rutland VT called Melansons, they make everything and when Leader down sized their plant here a few fabricators went to work for Melansons. Just need a hand drawing of what you want and they will make it. I had them make a 12" roof jack for me want to say it was just over 200, more than half less than what leader wanted. Its not bright annealed but I dont care.

because they know you need one and because its for maple = $$$$$ . just get a galv. one save you money you really don;t even notice it if you have a stainless stack.
Nope just what I did, my 7" stack went right thru it until it was tight. Then I put a color around that. No problems..

I got mine at Rockford Chimney Supply like wishlist. Been a few years now but as I remember it was less than half of the maple suppliers. Mine was for a 2 x 4 Mason and went through the center of the ridge.
