I have not had this problem before with 5/16 line but my 3/16 line has several spots that look like something named on it. What is strange is these spots are not close to the trees so they had to walk or perch on the line. It's not clear rather they pierced the line or not. So do you splice in new line? Or can you wrap spot with electrical tape?

I think it is deer damage. I tape mine (5/16) if it is leaking unless its a lot then I will replace it.

I know using electrical tape would easy, quick and cheap, but can you get a tight seal? And what happens to the tape after it gets wet and cold, personally I would go with patching in a new section.

Electrical tape actually weathers quite well on tubing. It all depends on how long the run is. Either way for now I would probably mark with electrical tape and fix it closer to season. If you fix it now it might get damaged again.

Got to your local plant sales place. You are looking for the ornamental purple and yellow pepper plants. Do not handle the peppers with bare hands. The oil will burn for some time. take a pepper and rub it on the tubing in affected areas. Mark all damaged areas and splice in a repair. The micro leaks that elec tape allow are pretty sizeable and will cost quite a bit in the long run. You can also get the black ball peppers they are really nasty. Do not eat these type of peppers, they are just to look at. Had a bud ruin a huge pot of chillie by using a pinch. It was so hot you could not yeat it and I have eaten a purple pepper on a bet. Purple is the first color when they are immature and higher on the plant.
Take the gloves off with a paper towel and use degreaser to wash hands after. I hug one with fishing line where the bucks rub on the saddles of the main. That stopped them for this summer.

Anytime you are working on tubing in the woods or making drops at home, make sure to wash your hands really good every 30 to 60 minutes at home with a plain old dish detergent like dawn that does have any extra additives or joy. When working in the woods, I take 2 or 3 handfuls of leaves and rub my hands all over good with them before starting and then about every 30 minutes. You hands sweat more than about any part of your body and you have salts and scents all over them. I also rub my hands up and down trees to get the bark on my hands and everything else off. Since I started doing this my animal damage has went down a bunch. Could also carry a bottle of Scent A Way or something similar and would help too.
