A friend cut a white pine about 36 in. on the stump a year ago and never bucked it up into firewood. I'm in the process of building a new sugar shack and am thinking of having the pine sawed into lumber for my roof. Question is might the tree not be good for lumber after a year in the log? Also I'm to the point of putting on the roof. Can I use the freshly sawn boards on the roof? Shrinkage in length is usually minimal and shrinkage in width of boards won't matter as a steel roof is going over it. Thanks and I will have to add pics soon as I see a lot of others are in the process of building this summer.
Might be stained and have beetle tunnels in it but it should be fine for roof sheathing.

Most mills will saw fresh wood (within a month) and then dry it after its lumber. And I am sure there will be lots of insects in the wood by now.

I agree with Wiam. Perfect for sheathing. I have a guy who picks through my pine for the ones with holes. They add character I guess.

Thanks guys! Do you think there will be a problem with putting it up green?
