I'm thinking I would like windows in my cupola doors. I'm thinking I might try building them with 2x2 cedar. Cut a groove in the middle and frame around some acrylic cut to fit. Has anyone tried anything like this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/27/ymana8y2.jpg

I've thought about this a few times - especially when I see someone throwing out some old sashes after a remodel. You know the half-sized ones that would go over a kitchen sink or in a bathroom? Those would probably look nice. It would just be for looks and a little more light when it's closed up.

Last year or the year before someone posted pictures of their completed sugarhouse and they had put windows in their cupola. They used regular wood framed windows and put an eye bolt in either side, just off center, so that it would naturally swing closed when they released the rope they had hooked to it. It looked like a nice idea, but I would be concerned about having glass over my evaporator.

Very nice. Is that pre-primed composite or did you get up there and paint?

Thank you - I cut and fitted the pieces and then primed and painted before nailing it up - then went back and touched up after nailing. Nothing is perfect but I'm having fun building it.

Looks very nice, there, Bird dog. Just steps in front of the door, or a full deck?

Thank you both - I haven't decided for sure what I'm going to do in front of the door. I might put in a small landing step with flagstone around it.

After seeing your project, it make me want to change mine up a little. Great looking building. Nice place to hang when you are in the "Doghouse"

I had the benefit of seeing what others have done from posts on this site. It's funny that you mention that, my son came home from college a while ago and said I should turn it into a "man-cave." I still have soffits, corner trim and then my smoke stack and some other odds and ends to get done but it's really starting to come together.

Made my frames out of treated 2x4 ripped down to 2x2. Attached clear skylight material and used 1/2" ridgid copper for the pivot. Attached the pivot with clamps and fastened a arm and rope and pulleys. Rope runs down inside of wall and hooks to eyebolts on post. Rope has dog snap on end of it.10067
