Is there such a thing as disposable tubing? I gather that tubing is typically sanitized and re-used year after year (I am a novice, with zero tubing experience). Is this correct? If so, I wonder if there's an alternative variety of tubing that is marketed as disposable, in the same way that there are single-use plastic taps. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Tubing has a recommended lifespan. Drops (the tubing from the tap to the lateral line) should be replaced every 4-5 yrs. Taps every year (except Stainless taps), which can be sanitized). Laterals are good from 10-15 yrs depending on which type you buy. Mains can be good for 15-20 yrs.
No one makes a tubing designed to be replaced each year. The labor and costs in installing a tubing system are too great to even consider removing and installing a new system every year.
The biggest issue is at the tap/drop. That is why taps are replaced yearly (at least the portion going into the tap hole) and drops are replaced every 4-5 yrs. This keeps production respectable while making a high quality product while showing the greatest return for the producer.

I was thinking for 50 taps or so there would be some super-cheap tubing material one could buy just for experimenting. Sounds like I need to take it a little more seriously. Thank you!

Lesson #1: There is absolutely nothing "super-cheap" in the sugaring world when it comes to equipment whether it is in the woods or the sugarhouse.:)

Super Cheap equals free used tubing that is in the recycle bin. Plenty of it around and for 50 taps just might work.
