I'm looking to buy another tank this year and it seems that the cdl tanks are considerably less money than competitors. Do any of you have these tanks? Are they good quality? I'm looking for a 750 gallon stainless for a concentrate tank.

I have two 400g and a 250g CDL and like them. Easy to clean and move around the frames are plenty robust. One 400g I have had for several years and a few rust spots have begun to develop on the frame as it has been outdoors, but other than that it is good quality. Definitely not as substantial a frame as the LaPierre tanks but they are an overall good value for what you pay for them.

Thinking about purchasing A stainless Tank In the Near Future, thought I might try to revive this thread. Anyone Have any further Opinions on whether one brand is better than the other, I like the looks of the lapierre ones and the idea that the bottom of the tank is slightly higher off the ground, but I like the price of the CDl tanks, the leader tanks that I have seen don't look all that different than the CDL ones, but they cost substantially more. Any Ideas or Personal experience would be appreciated.

I have 5,800 gallon CDL. The tank sets too low to the ground so I had to grind off a bit of the frame to make a valve fit. I believe they have overcome this issue now though. Otherwise I am satisfied with the tank. It does what it was supposed to do, hold sap.

Leader tanks are wicked overpriced for what they are. You can't go wrong with a CDL tank in terms of value. I just ordered another for a small area I'm setting up on 3/16".

I know that the lapierre tanks are built stronger than the CDL tanks, but for the price, CDL tanks are a much better deal. The only problem with the CDL tanks, as Lew said, is the outlets on CDL tanks are still too low to the ground and I had to grind some metal to get the valve on one tank. In fact, lapeirre advertises that here tanks have a raised bottom with 6" of ground clearance. The prices for both companies vary per gallon depending on the sizing. I bought a lapierre 6' x 6' x 16' 3854 gal tank for $1.15 a gal, then a 4' x 4'x 8' 754 Lapierre for $1.79 a gal. I then shopped around like I should have before I bought those two tanks and purchased a 4' x 4' x 8' CDL 771 gal for $1.44 a gal

I you are not constrained by a certain size requirement, the price from one size tank to another with the same amount of gallons varies a lot. In the 2013 lapierre catalog, you could buy a 4' x 33" x 16''
1037 gal tank for $2,572 (non discounted) which is $2.48 a gal. If the size did not matter, you could have gotten a 5' x 29 " x 16' 1050 gal tank for $2,194. (not discounted) which is $2.05 a gal.

CDL is the way to go.

One other thing. I dislike it very much that the equipment dealers don't put price on all items in their catalog. Just add a disclaimer " Prices subject to change". It is kind of difficult to do some comparison shopping for equipment with no prices available except to call the dealers.

You may also want to consider this tank fabricator:

I saw his handy work on the other site...

Isn't that the truth I find it hard to believe prices are going to vary that much from the printing of the catalog in the spring and the next one. It also makes it sound like they do not buy materials or produce anything ahead of time.

I have mentioned this at CDL about tubing price and they told me price is dependent on location.

Last year we added 3 CDL tanks to aide with the gathering and R/O process at the sugar house. This year we added a 588 gallon CDL tank in the woods at the end of the pipeline. While it does appear other brands maybe heavier built, the CDL tanks work just fine. We have put our tanks on 6X6 timbers to get them off the ground.

I was going to buy a cdl tank and it was going to take to long get it "of coarse I waited to December to order it"like 12 weeks so my dealer did some checking and we got a d&g for about the same money and theres no issue with the drain and there heavier built. this was 2 years ago but a 3300 gallon tank was 4400 dollars . I would buy another one in a heartbeat. So that's my 2 cents but then again you don't get much for a penny anymore.
