We are going to build a new sugarhouse this year and was wondering in the nny and eastern vt region who has nice places to visit to gather ideas. We are planning for the long term and want to build big enough for future expansion to possibly 50,000 taps.

I suggest to reach out to Peter Purington in Huntington. He has around 20,000 and is an evil genius. He just strikes me as a very nice person, with great ideas for the operation. He produces nearly 300 gal of syrup per cord of wood, and hardly touches the wood. He has a slick operation that I model myself after. I also suggest Glen Goodrich in Cabot. He has 20K taps and buys from another 20K I think. He is a great source for information and his retail sales offer some of the better prices you will find on many products for Maple.

While in the area, you would be close to the UVM Proctor center and couldn't hurt to stop in there too. These are the three resources closest to me, and have never led me astray.

try Parker's Family Maple in West Chazy, NY. 48,000 taps this year, and he told us of plans to expand to 60,000 this year. really nice setup, and the sugarhouse utilizes space really well.

My wood to syrup wasnt that good. But I made 1920 gallons and only burned 7.5 cord. 255 gallons of syrup to 1 cord.
