We just purchased a CDL HOBBY RO 200GPH. When doing the wash cycle how long should it be taking to get to the 84 degree shut off temp? We are in a remote location and run off a generator (so we want to shut it off before going home) and cook on flat pans. We ran 750 gallons of sap through on Saturday and let it run for 3 hours and only reached 72 degrees and then it started cooling back down. at 68 degrees we shut it off and did a 150 gallon rinse with permeante. I would think the 84 degrees is fairly important to reach to properly clean the membranes??? Anyone have any suggestions on how long it should take or how to help get the 84 degree temp?

I assume it shuts off on high temp at 84 F? Our CDL RO turns off at 42 C (108F). To get it to turn off in under an hour we add almost 20 gallons of hot water that's come from the drip dray of the pre-heater. That normally gets it to 37 or 38C and it takes close to an hour from that point to shut down. In that time we've done all our other cleanup and the last thing we do is drain the wash tank and set the machine to rinse overnight.

What you can do is add a hot water element to the wash tank to get it close and allow the re-circulating pump to warm the water the last few degrees.

I have a 6 gal stainless wash tank on my cdl hobby 250, its basicly the same just the early ones they over rated apparently cause it sure doesn't do 250gph! But anyhow, I have had it run for as much as 18 hours before it shutdown at 84 deg, and that's in a room heated to about 50 deg, so nowdays I set my little milkhouse heater next to the wash tank and it warms it up in an hour or less, usualy when I see it get to about 75 to 80 deg I take the heater away and let it run for the night till it turns off on its own. A great unit it has been, bought mine a year old used and have been using it for 3 seasons and it has saved me tons of firewood and time. I usualy run my sap thru twice, so often let it run while I sleep or am at work and feed it from my 1650 gal tank. A few weeks ago in the busy time it ran for 60 hours straight, other than short breaks when changing prefilters!

This was our first year with the CDL Hobby RO 200. Not having used an RO before we had several questions and CDL was great at providing support. They went a rep. down to help with the first run.

We found during our first wash on our own we re-heated the cleaning solution. We would put the once grate and permeate hoses into a separate bucket to r-heat and then pour this into the primarily cleaning bucket once it hit about 95 degrees. We would do this several times until the temperature reached 84 degrees and the machine shut off. During one of my phone calls to the rep. I asked about a timeline/duration for cleaning. It seemed about 45 minutes was good...that is what I have done when I get the water above 75 degrees. I figure the warmer water works better and 45 minutes at that temp. should be sufficient. There has not been any changes in pressure or concentration %. We normally ran ours through twice. At the end I am cycling it through until the concentration is between 3.7 and 4.0 before running it through a second time to the tank which feeds the evaporator. The instructions indicate the max concentration should be 8%. The RO removes water much faster than the evaporator (2x6 WSE). I am hopeful we may have a couple of days worth running this week...otherwise we are finished.
