Looking at purchasing a CDL 250 RO. It is expandable to 500 gallon tower if I wanted to go that route in the future. Seems like a good machine from reading older posts on here. Any recommendations or suggestions from anyone?

Depends on the hp of the high pressure motor. Mine is 5 hp and I started with two 4 x40 membranes which together did 250+- gals/ hr. Went to an 8 x40 membrane and now do 600+- gals/ hr. If I want I could led get another post and membrane and double the capacity. I've had my or for 10 + years and have had the motor bearings go twice and the pump shaft break this year. It was a 12 hr day from southern,ny to St. Albans to get it fixed. From WV? Just a thought Brandon. An ro is the way to go to make lots of syrup though. Good luck.

Thanks Van. Did you rebuild motor bearings or is that a factory fix and what brand do you have. I am 14 or 15 hour from St Albans @ way, so definitely a concern.

First time was bearings repacked, under warranty. Second time bearings again, no warranty. Then hurricane Irene, sent up to cdl to be rebuilt. Last week new motor, tired of rebuilding just give me a new one, and a new high pressure pump. It is a cdl and has run lots of sap. They are giving me a nice discount thanks to my local dealer. I think any machine can break anytime. That's farming.

The CDL is a good brand, it is similar to a Lapierre which is what I have. I bought my Lapierre new in 2004 for the 2005 season and haven't had any trouble with it. The only thing you will regret with an RO is that you didn't buy one sooner. Let us know if you do buy one I think you'll like it if you do.

You've seen a video of my setup. Without hesitation I would recommend the CDL 250. While we are looking to upgrade to a full vacuum from a sap puller and add another 150 or so taps I don't see us finding a need to step up to a large RO for quite sometime. It cuts the amount of sap to run through the evaporator a lot. As mentioned above...you'll kick yourself for not getting one sooner. As mentioned in other posts...the RO is likely the best upgrade to a large tap count or a puller/vacuum.

We are at about 58 gallons this year...less wood used than years with 25-30 gallons and more time to work on other projects.

I have a expandable cdl600, i know its not the size u r asking about but as a company ive had great service and great luck with there equipment. I would recomend cdl but i would also recomend seeing what dealer has a rep close to u in case u need service or a part. I had my ro go down once and the next morning the cdl rep was in my yard with a new unit to replace it no questions asked!!!!! That is awesome in my book!!!

I am at least 13 hours from any of the US branches of any of the companies so that is my biggest concern. Working full time can't jump in vehicle and drive 27 hours to get something fixed if it is something major. I have dealer couple hours away but all he would do is get me parts overnighted which I can do by calling the company.
