I used leader check valve on a stubby but I am pulling taps and heads will not come apart what's the secret?

Last year I made a check valve separator to carry along with my spout puller. I took a piece of 1/8" x 1" scrap flat stock 14" long and cut a 1/2"deep notch in the side just big enough
to fit between the stubby and the check valve adapter. If any of the adapters are too tight to take off by hand, I just slider the notched steel between the adapter and give it slight twist and off comes the adapter.

I always carried 2 pr. of pliers. Most came apart using just my hands, just twist and pull after removing from tree, those that needed help, I just used the pliers, again, twist and pull.

If you are having difficulty separating the stubby from the spile you probably drove them together too hard when you tapped out. It takes very little force to set the stubby in, just a light tap or two.

I may have Set the to tightly. I tried the plier technique and mangled a head so quit on that approach.

I drive the spout in gently with the hammer, then attach the stubby with a firm push and twist, by hand only. Once in a great while, freezing sap will push the stubby out enough to cause a leak. Disassemble by twisting the stubby off and parking it on the tee, then pop the spout out with a claw hammer.

That was also how I did them, the CV1 was tapped in gently until the sound changed, then the stubby was pushed and twisted by hand to seat. I did not hammer on them when paired up.

I use the LOAC spout puller and put the puller between the stubby and cv and use a quick wrist snap to separate them. Maybe 1 in 50 will have both peices pop out together. The. I just use a pair of pliers on the cv and my hand in the stubby and just twist. When tapping I tap my stubby onto the cv with a tapping hammer. One very light tap.

I carry pliers like many others. I do try to use my hands mostly. My index fingers get pretty sore after doing it. When I first started using them I only put the stubby on by hand, but after I got tired of having so many push off a little to create vacuum leaks I started tapping them with a hammer. I'd rather have it take me a little longer to pull the taps then lose volume due to air leaks.
I have also found out that the Leader stubby works better than the LaPierre stubby that I started with many years ago
