...cause I had 21 less taps!

Just did the Numbers and 20 taps this year yielded 5.5 Gallons of Syrup (Couldn't get across the flooded creek)

and 41 Taps last year yielded 13 Gallons of Syrup!

Looks like if I want to be a boiling fool I need to hit 50 Taps in 2015!

Hey Don,,,,
Thats pretty scientific, less taps equalling less syrup. Who would have thought !! LOL.

Hope your 2015 season brings all you want from it.

Good luck.

For some reason a sugar maker just doesn't feel productive unless his storage tanks are overflowing and seemingly no way to catch up! Gluttons for punishment I guess.

4 +/- gallons of syrup per tap!! Assuming 40:1 160 gallons of sap per tap! Those are incredible numbers for sure. What species of Maples do you tap?

I clearly read your post wrong. Sorry about that. Think I may have a touch of dyslexia.

Thats so true! I bought an ro then 1650 gal tank to prevent this then added more taps and right back in the same boat again!

5.5 Gallons from 20 taps is still great! :)

That would be 4 +/- TAPS per GALLON. You need to flip it: 5.5 gal/ 20 taps = .275 gallons per tap which is definitely respectable for gravity collection.

My second year at this project. Last year was about 23 gallons of syrup from 60 taps on two steam pans burnt about 4 loads of wood to accomplish that.

This year I built a 2x6 and had 85 taps. I boiled 670 gallons of sap and made 18 gallons of syrup with one load of wood.

So that was what happened. 350 taps this year and made about 5 gallons. Last year we were about about 375 taps and made about 75 gallons.
Those 25 extra trees we did last year must have been really good trees..
