I can just imagine the replies I may get from this post, but, will post in hopes of an honest answer.

When I pull a 5/16 tube from one of my 5 gallon collections buckets and suck on the tubes, I can see sap being pulled from the taps. If I don't suck, the sap is not flowing. I suck and then hold my tongue on it to hold vacuum, it kind of hurts the tongue after 10 seconds or so, lol.

So, while I am looking like a fool, bent over sucking on a line,,,,How much pressure by comparison I am pulling as to what a Shurflow pump will do? Can I suck better than a Shurflow, LOL.

I do see the benefits of a pump, just have to wait for next year.

I can only imagine the replies this post may cause, lol.

Serious question though.

Thanks.

Hi Terry, when our past vacuum pump was only reading 5" of vacuum, I proved to my Father that wasn't worthwhile as I could suck on the vacuum guage and only get 5", so not much going on way out in the line with the friction loss of the tubing, length etc.

Terry, if you can get your hands (mouth) on a vacuum gauge, you will get a hard number. I'm pretty sure a person can't blow even one pound of pressure, but it seems that I can remember getting the needle to move on a vacuum gauge.

I have pulled down a vacuum guage down to 29 inches before by mouth. Its crazy but most people can do this in fact.

One year I hired a guy to suck sap out of my trees but it turns out he was drinking most of the sap so I had to fire him.
