The shaft on my 76 pump has spun in the barrel. Upon disassembly I noticed it was welded before, although minimal with poor penetration. Has anyone had success welding these?
Any tips or pointers?

MIg...70% on fire feed and I run my 170 on level 4 of 6. Hit the drum mostly so as not to warm the shaft and penetrate the drum well. Both ends is best. Cool slowly not fast as it could crack the drum. Fairly tricky to not warp the shaft and have rubbing after done.

I welded it today. Pre heated it and it welded good. Ground the weld for proper spacer clearance. Installed and it fell together. Runs awesome. Wicked good Vac. So far so good.

You may have been seeing the shaft slipping before if the vac was not up to par. My 75 did that. I was out looking for leaks and coming up empty...when all it was was the shaft starting to spin slightly. The next am it ran fine when I shut it down to check the oil and it would not restart.
Great job!
