I bought some plastic self-sealing syrup jugs, but I forget how long to turn them upside down to initiate the seal once filled with hot sap. 10 seconds, 30 seconds?
Greg
I go about a minute per jug.

I just lay them on their side for 30 seconds. Does same thing and less dangerous. I think Sugarhill now states it is not neccessary to do either but makes me feel better.

I put quarts and anything smaller upside down and lay anything bigger on their side.

you don't have to. But the only reason I do it is to make sure the seal has sealed. sometimes there is imperfections in the lid or seal and I have had them not seal correctly. So I always put them on their side for a few seconds if no leak then its good to go. the steam and heat in the jugs after they are filled in enough to sanitize the tops.

I lay mine on their side as long as it takes to fill the next jug. The last jug gets several minutes because I'm doing something else.
