Tapped The 15th thru the 23'rd of February 281 all new, and another 60 one year old taps. Have seemed to be ahead of most in the area. Made about 40 gallons so far. Now the sap is slow coming, and cloudy. Should I pull the plug, or hope for another run? Thanks Doug

Why is it cloudy? Just a newbie wanting information.

If you are like me and happy with making more than you did last year, and are tired and burnt out form it sure LOL im curious why it would be cloudy too?
What is your flow coming in? do you still have enough to boil? Maybe boil it up and use it to make butter or cream?

Sap can get cloudy and still make good syrup. If you get another stretch of cold weather, it will often clear back up. Don't pull the taps until your hear the peepers.

Haven't looked today, but at 4:00 PM yesterday it was only a trickle. No vacuum, but with new taps I thought it would last longer. Even though it was cloudy, it tasted fine, so I will gather what I have and boil it tomorrow! Boiled down 80 gallons of cloudy sap Tuesday, and got some good tasing B out of it!

I'm pulling my stuff out starting tonight. It was a short season but I made plenty to be happy with. The long term weather isn't good, and the buds are starting to swell in my area (Deerfield). I cant imagine having another decent run but I guess it could happen? the chance of buddy sap increases every day now...I'm done, on to other things like wood cutting and trout fishing.

It doesn't freeze tonight, but Sat and Sun nights could be cold. We may even get a run on Thursday, if the trees hold out for it - maybe some dark syrup for that last boil.
