I know there are many who use an urn to bottle with after heating it to syrup temp. in a stock pot, etc. but are there any that have been successful in bringing cold syrup to temp. in the cofee urn itself? I ask because I am contemplating trying this after letting my finished syrup sit in a pot for a few days and settle out the crude that way, carefully pour the good syrup in the urn, turn on and bottle when it hits 185. I know my urn will heat water to nearly 200. I am aware that the syrup that is in direct contact with the element may be a little hotter. Sorry if this has already been covered, thanks in advance.:)

I use an urn for bottling but I am filtering the syrup hot into the urn. I think you will have a lot of nitre buildup around the element if you try to heat cold syrup to 185.

I use a urn that holds 4 gallons and it takes about 20-30 minutes to bring syrup to temp. with the cover on. I fill it to about an inch of the top to avoid a spill. When the light comes on I usually wait about another 10 minutes for everything to heat up a little more.
