The past two times I have tried filtering with my Wes fab short bank I have pulled the press apart after and there's been a 1/2-3/4" hole in the first paper. I run hot water with de through before I put syrup in then I put more earth in the syrup. Any idea why this happens and how I can fix it

Why would you run de with water through? That is not recommended way to run a press? What pressures are you seeing? Air or electric powered? If it's the same place that blows I would look for a sharp edge near there. Syrup is 180-190?

An old timer by me told me that he runs de through with hot water to get it in the press, I tried with just syrup and de but putting de in first got it clearer for me. My pressure is between 9 and 20 psi. Syrup is 200*+.

The pump is an electric gear pump

Forget the hot water. Just mix in the initial charge of DE, mixed well, I usually did 1.5-2 cups in a roughly 3 gal batch, at 205-215 degrees. I ran it thru and back into the mix tank until the discharge looked crustal clear. Then just start pumping it to whatever you can from (or into a barrel). I've never blown a paper and early in the batch it ht about 15-20 PSI, as the press gets nearly filled up with filter cake/niter I restrict it to 40-45 PSI by allowing some to bypass the filter and go back to the mix tank. After that initial charge I reduce the DE per batch to about 2/3 cup in a 5-6 gal batch.

I run batches of 12-15 gallons, how much de should I use?

I doubt this is your issue but i made this mistake, are your plates all lined up the same way (groove all on the same side)? I did not know this mattered and at least for some filter presses, it does. Again, probably you are well aware and beyond this.
