My taps are finally starting to have a real run today. They actually started a little yesterday. I currently have 40 taps in and one of my three rockstar double tapped huge sugar maples are doing nothing as in 0 sap. What would cause this? All three of these large trees are in a line on the same hill side with the same sun exposure.

It's the female tree and doesn't want to cooperate?

It's the stubborn male tree that won't ask for directions?

Are they all the same diameter? Are the tap hole depths equal? Is each tap the same distance from a previous tap hole?

I have a few trees that have never gave me a drop of sap, But I tap them every year hoping this will be the year. Trees 10ft away will give a gallon or more a day.
I'd love to know the answer.

If you find the answer please share it with us. 375 taps made me almost 25 gallons of sap on this fine day

I had over 300 taps last year and on my best day I would get 35 gallons. I went to vacuum this year, hoping for a huge improvement. We'll see this weeks forcast looks good.

Well when we gathered our 400 buckets recently we came across half a dozen that had no sap:
2 maple trees were dead
1 was a brown ash tree
and 3 had the spile driven in the wrong hole. This years hole was oozing sap and the spile had been driven into last years taphole. This is related to the 3 foot snowpack and having to tap down at knee level. . .

I have a couple of Red Maples that haven't given more than a drop this year.

I have one huge sugar that has done the same thing. Not one drop and then Tuesday I checked and it was overflowing, open the bucket and its yellow sap. Had to dump it. I would love to know why this happened. I asked earlier in the season on here and never got any good answers.
