View Full Version : Pot of sap on woodstove questions ??

I am trying something new this year after reading about it here at Maple Trader.

I only got about 8 gallons of sap in the last 24 hrs. so I decided to slow boil it on the garage wood stove. Right now I have about 5 gallons in a pot sitting on the stove, not really boiling, but steaming hot.

In a couple hrs., while I am sleeping, the stove will cool some as the wood load depletes. I assume in the morning the sap will just be warm.

Do I just add more wood to the stove and continue that process each night and day? I do keep the wood stove going all day to warm garage, but it does cool each night. Just coals remain when I go to the wood stove each morning.

Will the sap go funky due to not being real hot each night?

How long can I keep adding sap to the pot?

If anyone can give me direction to this process it is appreciated.

Thank-you.

Since you are keeping it waarm to hot 24/7 I feel you should make it boil good every day. even if for just a little while. and that should cut days off the simmer time :)
