This is the hood with 24 feet of pre-heater that I made for my new evaporator. For the pre-heater, I used 3/4 inch fin tube radiation pipe. I hope to get 80 gallons per hour evaporation rate. This is a 3 x 8 evaporator. Is 80 gallons too much to hope for?

Fred,

Do you have an airtight or forced draft. Joe(mapleking) gets around 100 to as high as 120 gph with his 3x8 forcedraft woodsaver. :D

I think you will be close to 80 GPH I would say no problem with a inferno or intenso fire arch. Even if you get 75 that is still good for a 3X8. You may find you get a little over 80 It won't be long before you can actually put it to the test.
It looks good anyways

I have neither air tight nor forced draft. I just want to tweak it to a little better than 60GPH.Plus make some good use of the steam that I am making. It is very new to me and I don't want to run it to death. I am retired and have lots of time on my hands.

Fred,
Very nice looking hood and evaporator! You should be at the 80 GPH mark. I get 80 to 90 GPH on our old King which is a 3 x 10. Are you going to have a damper in the steam pipe? I have heard many pros and cons on the damper in the stack.
Did yo put a thermometer in the output line from the preheater? I did not have one the first few years and then added one a couple of years ago. I like to see what the preheater is doing. We can get about 200 deg F on the sap exiting the preheater.
You should get 5-7 gallons of condensate per hour also.

No thermometer on in the preheater and I did put a damper in the steam stack. With my old rig I would hold a digital thermometer in the float box and I was getting 180drg. Holy cow 5-7 gals an hour. Free hot water.

No, that is not Patrick's hood. I designed the hood and had it bent and then I put is together.

Brandon, Afer I looked at the pic's I noticed the dust on it so I went back with some SS polish and cleaned and polished it. Then I smiled.

Fred,

That is a nice looking set up you have there. It should boil better than the rig you had before.
