frost depth

Perc test holes dug friday w/excavator showed frost to be in excess of 3 ft deep. This in open fields, suspect frost deeper in the woods. Is this a contributing factor in our lack of sap this spring?

Not sure about where you are in NY but around here we generally have less frost in the woods than open areas. We may have had more snow cover which helps keep frost depth a little lower.

We had reports of 43" in Buffalo area, and 47" in the southern-tier NY. My water hydrant that is about 4' deep froze 2x on me.
