Drove up to the cabin today and fired up the evaporator.
Got a good boil going and didn't smell anything.
Checked my sugar content. .. Not even 1/2 percent.
Shut the evaporator down, dumped the buckets and made the 2 hr. drive home.
Guessing no freeze thaw cycles put the brakes on things for a while.
Next week temps look good, praying.

Wow, sorry to hear that.
I have a feeling my season is over now. Four days in a row with good temps, sunshine and not a drop of sap. I boiled my last batch yesterday. I'll leave the taps in a while yet and see what happens.

I'm getting discouraged with my sap flow also. Boiled once so far and only 46 gallons. Have maybe another 20 gallons of sap adding up. I really hope the trees start producing sometime soon. I even have one huge 100 year old sugar maple that hasn't given more than 6 oz's of sap all season so far. Used to be one of my best producers.

Yea, running strange here in Amherst and Belchertown as well.
I go to Gardner every other day and have talked with a few people out there.
There not happy with the way sap is running either.

My 3/16 runs great. My buckets have been slow so far. Made five gallons last week and had enough sap to do it again today. But...

sap hasn`t run good here in westfield for more then an hour or so at a time even with vacuum. I blame it on the wind, when it was calm and sunny it was pouring out and the cool wind would come blowing thru and throw the brakes on. over and over where getting close, just hope the weather holds out good luck to all

I just got a hydrometer to test sap Friday. Tried it out yesterday morning and got 0% in the stored sap. later in the day the same storage container was registering a bit less than 1.5%.

Some basic hydrometers are temp. sensitive. I think the optimum temp is 60° for the liquid being tested, and with such a small concentration as sap, I wonder if you would get a false reading at say, 35°

I didn't check temp. But last week, same weather conditions I had 1-1/2 percent. Found one of my sugars with 2 percent, but that was only 2 buckets.
