Kill,em or leave them??

I have a couple few trees that grew along a very old fence line. The tree trunks are damaged but still growing. Should these few trees be removed? I am thinking they will be a danger later as they get bigger.

I also have another Maple that was exposed to a fire pit and the bark is peeling off. Is this tree going to die now? 9348

They're pretty ugly, but if it's the only tree in that spot, it's the one you tap. If there's another nearby, just waiting for some sun, then take 'em down. Maple trees are tough, and can grow and heal after some pretty bad looking damage. It'll never make a saw-log, but that's not what we're after here.
