I was listening this morning to nhpr while boiling, some "expert" came on and gave a 3min talk about maple syrup, new hampshire, and the upcoming maple weekend. He sais this year has been ok so far with producers in the south making half their sryup already. Producers in the north are a bit behind. He also said last year was one for the records no one wants to remember. I'm trying to figure out if my wifey slipped crack cocaine into my breakfest this morning or his.
Its the day before maple weekend the official company line is "The season started slow, but we are fine come on down"! Monday it will be, ya this sucks, and we have no syrup.

I live in the "south" and if this is half the sap I'm going to get it's pretty pitiful.

I would agree sounds good for pr but as for me in the north I'm not a bit behind , its not even started , I've yet to boil and I'm not alone you can bet on that .BUt you can't blame folks alot of hard work and $ for a year like this and many depend on maple weekend

Well if you look at Accuweather's monthly outlook it shows a sudden warm up in a week or so with consistently above freezing temps (day and night) after that. If that turns out to be the case the season will be over for us in the southern portion of the state.

With this winter even the sheople know its cold lol don't think they will fool them. Thankfully I picked up 50 taps that were selling sap to a big operation. They are bringing me sap now and when it gets busy they will go back to the big guys. Two local people, great deal for me with the slow season. I've made a little over 8 gallons so far and I've got 3+ boiling in the pan right now. What are you guys up north planning to do this weekend?

With all this daylight, the trees will react quickly to any warmth. Seeing 60's by month's end in the outlook, is a bit of a worry. I expect that with the snow pack, we'll be making plenty of dark this year, though.
For maple weekend, you may think about taking orders. Maybe offer free shipping on orders over $60 to grab some cash at the shack...

This NHPR report was done a year ago. I'm surprised they keep airing it.
