I haven't gotten half the sap this week as I got last week. Even though it has been warmer. What gives?
Have u had any colder weather at night?

Ideally you like to see a little below freezing at night and well above freezing during the day. Keeps the sap moving in the tree, thus running out the taps as it is moving. Too many days that don't drop below freezing and the sap will come to a stop. I think the heavy frost that is still in the ground around here has throttled the sap flow down as well.

The cold snap at the first of the week put the trees back to sleep. It takes a few warm sunny days to get them back. Tomorrow should be better??? Lets hope. I have 175 taps in and only have about 10 gallons in the buckets. I just hope the temps hold out till mid April. You can't control Mother Nature... wish we could!!
Ridge777 we have allot in common. I too started in 2012 and as of 2014 we have a similar tap count. Been really slow here.

I wish I had MORE in common with you. All my taps are drops into 5 gallon buckets and my shack is only 10x12. I stil have alot of work to do in my bush before I run main lines. Working on that and a new shack this summer. Putting in another 50 taps this weekend should get me to 225. One thing is for sure if we didn"t lose the bug after the 2012 season we will surely get through this slow start. I just checked a few of my buckets and things are looking up for a boil this Sunday. Keep the faith!!!
We'll keep it up. It's gonna be an interesting season when it gets here. Once it's all over will be interesting looking back at all these old posts
We haven't gotten much this week so far either. I was thinking that maybe it wasn't cold enough last night or something. it was snowing like mad, but it was only around freezing. I think it will run tomorrow because it's supposed to get colder. The stars were out tonight, so that's a good sign. Maybe tomorrow when it's sunny and 40 degrees the sap will pour out of the trees, or maybe not.

Same thing here more last week than this. Not sure what I will get. Almost not worth starting the boil for less than 20 gallons of sap
