Collected from my 35 taps late this morning –*around 55-60 gallons of sap from between Saturday and today. Seems to be flowing a bit today. Hopefully warmer temps (and less wind) will help to keep things going.

Any idea the sugar content of your sap?

No, I don't have any way to measure it.

I guess it's running a bit. Collected @ 30 gallons this morning. I'm out of storage space and it looks like I'll have to fire up the evaporator.

Here is what I do to figure out my sugar content....
Lets say you get 40 gallons of sap...I convert that to ounces. 40*128=5120 and lets say you got exactly 1 gallon of syrup from that 128oz.......then divide 128 by the 5120 and you will get your percentage of sugar in the sap: 128/5120=0.025 convert to percentage and its 2.5% sugar......Im getting about 1.89% out of my sap.

Thanks for the quick math lesson... :) I'll see how I do by the end of the season.

I'm a geek, I love figuring this stuff out and keeping track of what I'm getting. You should see the spreadsheet I made with temperatures and sap flows lol

We bought a sap hydrometer this year, I take it with Me and test each tree. Then I write the date and% on the jug. Its fun to see what each tree is putting out.

I had planned to track each tree this year, but between a cold and work it's been tough to keep on top of things!
