Heres what we made, 1/2hp feed pump to a procon 330gph with 1.5hp motor which feeds two ss 4040 end clamp housings with xle membranes. We feed in parallel, we run 250-300psi and average 120gph of permeate on cold (32-35) sap when we start running. We just run a batch system, no recirculation in piping. It worked great last year for 400 taps and seems to be doing good enough this year for 800 taps. I just have some questions for others with homemade setups.
First question whos running housings in parallel vs series and why. I have thought about trying them in series but am afraid the second one will plug up faster. On the other hand my pump puts out 5.5gpm so right now im only getting 2.75gpm per housing, so would running in series keep the flow rate up and foul less anyhow?
xle 4040 membranes are rated for up to 14-15gpm flow, has anyone put on a pump with this kind of flow and what kind of flow rates and fouling are you seeing
Is anyone pushing the limit with these housings and or procon pumps as far as pressure? I have run up to 325psi with ours. I assume if they rate these housings to 300psi they are good for more. As far as the procon pumps we run it at 300psi continuously with maybe 20psi feed pressure, has anyone ran them higher with success?
Thanks
