Hows your sugar content?

A few guys posted earlier that their sugar had been low. Just wondering how things are looking now. I got the better part of my taps in over the weekend and I'm testing around 2.3 but I was at 2.0 at the end of the warm day yesterday. Thats at the Mass/VT. border.

I finally got a good run the last 2 days here in NE Pa. The kids have about 20 buckets on some giant old yard trees. They tested about 2% last night. I've got 500 on vacuum this year. They tested 1.2%, ouch!! What do the experts think? Will my bush come up in percentage, as the woods thaw?

On the Wilson lease we are getting 2.5 and on our sugar bush we are getting 3.2. No sap yet from the Pleasant valley Lease.

2.9% +/- .1 was the average of the whopping 4 gallons from 50 taps I got yesterday

We are used to low content but it was really low yesterday. 1000 gallons of 1.1 and 900 gallons of 1.3

just under 2 from my silvers, which is good, and almost 4 from the sugars, which is better. Just haven't had enough of either with this crazy weather.

it hasn't even given me a gallon all season but yea u drinck a little bit and it makes ur stomach hurt its so sweet

In all the sap I collected 500g some was frozen solid for weeks and left a lot of ice behind when I pumped I only had a slim 2 percent. I talked to everybody else around CNY and they only had 1.25 - 1.5. I made 1.5 gallons of syrup so far and it was pretty dark. Only can go up from here. Good luck

Tapped yesterday & got 2.6% from Silver Maple and 3% from Black Walnut

Hauled some in from my vacuum trees last night. It was up to 1.5. It looks like another hard freezed for two days and then some 40's. Hopefully it will creep up this week.

What little I have gotten, maybe 60 gallons, I boiled off yesterday and checked it at 1.7%

Started off the season at 1-1.5%. In the past week it has been 1.8 to a high of 2.5 yesterday. 2.5% is rare for my woods lots of telephone trees with small canopies.

I have no way to measure but judging from my syrup yields so far I'd have to say the sugar content is running lower at my place than in the past few years.

Saturday my buckets were 2.7% tubing was 2.2% Incredible amount of sugar sand,. syrup has stayed at ADARK bordering B . Hows everyones syrup looking?

Mine was at 1.8 but not enough to boil. We are going to get minus temps at night for the next couple of days but maybe mmid week we will get some.

Ours ran a bit higher this year, about 1.8 - 2.0 range. We are basically done for the year, but we were unable to make any lighter syrup. Is it common for the darkness/color to vary from year to year?
This is only year 6 for me, third year on a true evaporator. The lightest syrup we ever made was with the batch method in homemade flat pans, and last year we got quite a bit of A-med on our evap. This year, though, it was A-dark from the start, and actually lighted up and became more clear with a red hint (looked like dyed farm diesel in a jar) to the color as the season progressed. Has me bumfuzzled.

Sap I collected this morning from yesterday's run tested 2.8 from gravity line and 2.6 from vac very happy since my trees normally run 1.8-2.0 boiled what I had to start sweetening the pans and boy let me say this within the first hour of my next boil I will be pulling off syrup. Glad it has finally started cpmaple

I have always made mostly light and medium but this year has been all dark so far. Most of the people I know prefer dark anyways.

Not in CNY. I asked around and most people around here have 1.25-1.5 sugar. I had 2 but that was frozen solid from the previuos deepfreeze.LOL
