Stock tank heater

Has anyone used a stock tank heater to thaw sap in tanks?

Interesting idea. I know they work good for our horse troughs.

I use one on rare occasions, like last week. I have the cord going through a piece of styrofoam and with a piese of stainless ty wrapped to the cord. This allows the heater to float and makes sure the short cord doesn't fall into the sap. Use it sparingly as sap will go bad with the heat.

I always leave the ice in to keep the next sap cooler
