Cold until it warms. When you start to get freeze thaw cycles, I predict the sap will start to flow.

With all the snow and the 3 inchs of ice thats under it,I think that in some locations, the season may be a little longer for some. The longer the snow stays on the ground, the longer the season.I hope. One thing for sure,we will find out.

I get asked this all the time- ever since my beard went grey, folks seem to assume I know what I'm talking about....I always predict an average season, that way, I'm never too far off.........

We made 80% of our syrup last year all in the month of April (about 2,220 gallons). The only difference this year is the 3-4 feet of snow coverage, we had about sixteen inches this time last year. We are wondering if we'll be boiling into May this year since we boiled into the last week of April last year.

Short season. To cold for this time of year...for an average we will warm up quickly with a change in the jet stream and we temps to high at night for good runs. Current forecast is for Friday in my area for a run...that will be the 7th of March. I remember years we were all washed up by the 15th.
Lets pray for a season like last year and we can all produce into April.
My area is South wesern VT & NY Border. Elevation will play a huge roll this season.
