I thought it would be fun to see who's getting sap at the highest percentage. As in your full haul of sap for the day/week not just what one special tree produces on one day. The 100 odd gallons I hauled last week and boiled yesterday was at 2.8%. Id love to break 3%

I'd love that. I normally get 2.2-2.3 early season and down below 2 late season. My tank had 1.2% last weekend. Not good.

I just got done jugging up the syrup I finished boiling last weekend. I was afraid of what the hydrometer was saying when I was hauling in the sap I gathered last week. I had to use some imagination to get the hydrometer up to 1.5 %. The last 2 days of gathering before it froze up did seem to run closer to 2% (my usual). I figured last night that I made 1.5 gal + 1 pint off of 84 gal of sap which made my average sugar content 1.58 - not as bad as I thought.

I been getting 2.0-2.2 for what little sap i have. I think this is controlled regionally. I see people post high sugar content and they are usually in the same region. I know in my area I have never seen anyone get over 3%. Our norm is 1.5 -2.0.

Averaging 3% ! Some trees running at 4.5! Awesome year for us. Made 3 gallons on less than 90 gallons of sap so far. Boom.

Hydrometer not reading? Wow! I don't think id be able to boil, wouldn't be worth it. I got just a hair under 3 gallons on the 100 ish gallons. After reading about 4.5 sap I'm going to test some indidiual buckets from the big trees I've got tapped.

We haven't collected any sap, but last year our overall sugar content was 1.3. Better than the previous year of 1.1. Last year was our first year with no caterpillars. Lots of sap though. 26.75 gallons per tap.

We boiled about 75 gallons of sap and got 1 & 3/4 gallons of syrup over the weekend! Did not do the math on the sugar %, but this was the Best first boil we've had in 5 years.
This might be a dumb question but.... How do you measure the sugar content in the sap with the hydrometer? Or is there another hydrometer for measuring sap that is not for the finished product?

You guys will need a sap hydrometer or a refractometer

I measured a bucket on Tuesday night (02/25) and it was about 2.5%. I'll have to pull some out of the tank so I can get a average measurement. I've had some buckets read 2.0% so I know that one bucket was really good.
