Tap choice

What's everyone's preference on taps ? I'm pretty new to this stuff. I have both 7/16 spiles and 5/16. Which are better, or is there a difference. I've also seen the check valve style but have heard they can stick.

I prefer the 5/16 spile, as it makes a smaller hole in the tree. I still have some 7/16 that I use, but don't notice any less sap from the 5/16 spiles.

I have and use both as well and also prefer the 5/16 for it's smaller hole and much quicker closing hole. The internal damage to the tree is also supposed to be less which is why they're called tree savers. I also haven't noticed much difference in the amount of sap produced.

Thanks for all the info. I'll probably start replacing the 7/16 ones with the tree savers. I just assumed bigger hole, more sap. I've been using the bigger one on bigger trees and have noticed the smaller trees do heal faster with the smaller hole.
