The EPA is considering very stringent regulations on wood burning: http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/epa-wood-stove-ban/2014/02/23/id/554234?ns_mail_uid=83602046&ns_mail_job=1557292_02232014&promo_code=16905-1 .
More Obama over-regulation?

I doubt it will affect maple. A maple arch never smoulders, that is where the issue lies. We fire as hot as we can and thus the stack don't even smoke.

As currently planned, this will only effect equipment that is newly produced and your older already-made stoves will be grandfathered. But give it time and they will keep inching toward more control of all that you do. Whether it makes sense or not. Logic need not apply. Funny how wood is a renewable resource and now they are pushing toward the use of fossil fuels. So what is it? Do they want less petro converted to co2, or do they just want more of your tax money?

LOL Yes! it will affect everyone that plans to install a new evaporator TO HEAT THEIR RESIDENCE.
Good Lord. What has happened to our reading comprehension?

Home heat for now happy thoughts. Once they clear that hurdle, the rest will be really really easy. Can't see much of the general public caring much when the noose get tightened around the maple producers neck. It's now a matter of WHEN the govt is going to come to "help" you, not IF.

Yeah, I know blueberry. The sky is falling, right? :)
I am still using a wood stove that was grandfathered after the last EPA emissions standards....IN 1988! It is still perfectly legal to use. No one from the EPA has ever turned up at my door to confiscate it nor do I expect them to do so in the future. If you really really need something to worry about, I'm not going to stop you but honestly I have better things to do than worry about imaginary G-men hiding behind every maple tree. Besides, this "news" has nothing to do with this forum section called "The Evaporator, Its Accessories and Boiling On It"

You may have an idea there. Install a steam hood and heat exchangers on the stack. Get your sap fix and the neighbors will never know you are addicted!!!

LOL I like that ! :) I've been known to use sap on my wood stove to add humidity to the house as a few othere have done here.
Actually I think the new regs are aimed at outdoor boilers. Now *there's* an idea. Boil your sap and heat the house and water from the comfort of your back yard, :)

I was thinking about building an adapter for my barrel evaporator to heat my pool, thereby getting another season of use from it.

This is my last post on this so bash me all you want afterwards, but you guys seem to think I am nuts and I just want to say that I don't think the sky is falling. Often times if you listen to politicians on the news, they are the ones that are saying that the sky is falling and that is their justification for taking away more of our liberty.
You can call me paranoid and make jokes about G-men, but I am certainly not paranoid. Annoyed, yes. I don't like the isolated elites in DC making up rules about stuff that they really know nothing about. They usually end up making things worse and not better. Even if it's with good intentions, it's often misguided.
Any of you guys can stop by for a beer and you won't see any tinfoil hats or anarchist books. Your not gonna see a bug-eyed open-carrying dixie-whistling old fart. A question was asked about legislation and I guess I should have kept my opinion to myself. So sorry about that. But I'm not going to start bashing on any of your for your opinions. I might not like some of your opinions, but I am not going to be rude to you about it. I think it was quite disrespectful and uncalled for.

BlueberryHill .... my comment regarding heating my pool wasn't intended as a bash on you; I hope you didn't interpret it that way. It is something I have been seriously thinking about doing. Regarding political opinions or views.... I'm not going there.

Last year I was told that I needed to have my sugar shack inspected. This year I was hit with the new flood insurance regulations. And now the government wants to tell me how to heat my home. I'm so happy our gov. is watching out for us.

Last I saw cook stove are NOT regulated. All heating wood stoves are regulated by the EPA. I check and some airtight cook stoves do not cost much more than the same sized heating stove. Now is an arch a cook stove or a commercial wood burner, or an outdoor 'grill'??
