stack thermometer

I am looking at a stack thermometer. I want the kind that goes into the stack. Looked at the archives and the only thing I can find is put it at "eye level" or "chect level" Where do I put it and what temps should I expect on a wood fired 2 by 6

I have mine at eye level so I can see it. On my current arch I run around 1000, it also depends if I am running gasification or forced air. On my old traditional arch with auf I would be 1200-1400. Remember that all arches run a little different and you just need to find your sweet spot and use the theremometer as a gauge.

Mine is at eye level. My arch is on 8" blocks. Air under fire. I like it around 1400.

William, where did you get your thermometer? The ones that I see are only listed up to 1000 degrees
