Based on a forecast of 5+ days above freezing, we tapped our 20 trees in Bethany last night (Northern New Haven County). Old fashioned taps and buckets. The snow was nearly waist deep in some spots so it was hard work. Not a drop while drilling/tapping, and not a drop today at 3:00PM. Tomorrow’s forecast is 44deg. and Friday’s 50deg. so I'm hopeful I made the right call.

Any questions come and visit the Brooksvale Sugar Shack and we'll help, share stories, frustrations and successes. I'm there most days except Sundays. You can check the park facebook page to get an update. Your call is good. We use 30 buckets and teach over 500 kids from Hamden PS.

I put out another 18 taps on Monday, 85 total now, I used snow shoes when I got tired of sinking through the snow

I tapped over the weekend and had the same experience. Not a drop yet out of most of my trees.

We took frozen sap out of our buckets and the flow was steady by 2pm...I told some visitors that spring is on it's way! They laughed. Hard.

I emptied my sugar maple bags and buckets at about 2:00 yesterday. Some had some good ice and I didn't want to lose sap. Out of about 40-45 taps, I had about 30 gal sap, 2.6% sugar. Was dripping well, the southern and western facing taps. This morning, the sacks around the house have sap in the northern facing taps, at dark last night they did not.

Collected this morning. 5.5 gal from 20 taps in 24hrs. I'll call this a good start.
